John Paul Lederach’s The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace goes could only have been written by someone who had spent many years in the field of conflict management. With its underlying focus of the essence of peacebuilding, it looks far beyond what one may learn in any textbook or seminar. While the first 8 chapters of the text are ripe with areas for further analysis, here I will focus only on theme, found in one chapter, in the interest of brevity. In chapter 2 of The Moral Imagination we are introduced to real life micro-case studies. The cases aim to help the reader understand how people experiencing violent conflict throughout the world have worked to â€Å"transcend the cycles of violence that bewitch our community,† building on Lederach’s statement on why the book was written. That being said, we can see that Lederach is operating under the assumption that current day peacebuilding and conflict management is not working as well a s it should. It is clear that he thinks there is something more that needs to be involved in current strategies and models. He believes we must move from looking at actors in a conflict as separate involved parties and instead view parties as â€Å"a web of relationships which include our enemies.† This requires a shift in thinking for those in thefield of peacebuilding and for those involved in the conflict, but in making this shift, we can look at conflicts as existing within our communities rather than between our

The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) is a monumental transportation policy that has begun to outline transportation policies and regulations while influencing new infrastructure in the United States. According to the Department of Transportation (1998), TEA-21 is a â€Å"landmark† act â€Å"improving safety, protecting public health and the environment, and creative opportunity for all Americans.† Such policies and regulations are important in order to maintain the economy while protecting workers, consumers and the environment. TEA-21 focuses on revolutionizing the transportation industry by implementing more universal, preventative safety measures, stricter environmental and public health regulations while creating more†¦show more content†¦With the American economy slowly on the rise, TEA-21 provides regulations to further stimulate the economy by implementing low-cost transportation methods that are dependable. According to the Depart ment of Transportation (1998). TEA-21 â€Å"†¦supports trade and security† at the nation’s borders, â€Å"efficient transportation† and provides â€Å"support† for â€Å"university-level education and research programs† at university transportation centers. TEA-21 is monumental in improving various aspects of the transportation process and systems to make transportation more efficient and resourceful, which is analogous with my vision of the regulation. Although TEA-21 encompasses a vast array of transportation, it’s an extensive regulation that may be difficult to fully implement. I think it is a much needed step toward the improvement of transportation methods and processes that will benefit all Americans. My vision of the regulation includes having several teams and groups to implement the various aspects and components of the TEA-21. TEA-21 will allow for increased safety for all people, for everyone is involved in the transportation process whether recreationally or professionally. It provides a national protocol for all states to adopt to ensure the universal implementation of safety procedures. Greece and Turkey -By 1946, Greece and Czechoslovakia were the only countries in Eastern Europe that weren’t Communist. -Even in Greece, the government, which was being supported by British soldiers, was having to fight a civil war against the Communists. In February 1947, the British told Truman they could no longer afford to keep their soldiers in Greece. Truman Doctrine In the 1930s, America had kept out of Europe’s business. Now, on 12 March 1947, Truman told Americans that it was America’s DUTY to interfere. Marshall Aid -Truman saw war ravaged Europe as a â€Å"breeding ground† for Communism. -He felt it was vital to encourage countries to become prosperous again – to recover from the war. -US Secretary of State, Ge orge Marshall, propsed Marshall Aid (also know as the Marshall Plan) Just being helpful? -Helping European countries to recover also meant creating a market for US exports. -Also (although not publicly admitted) it was a clear aim to prevent the spread of Communism. -Stalin saw this as America trying to buy support.
